TECHNOLOGY
Integrating technology into the curriculum is a priority -- if not a mandate -- in most schools today.
At BCS we agree that technology should be integrated, not as a separate subject or as a once-in-a-while project, but as a tool to promote and extend student learning on a daily basis. Laptops are "rolled out" to the students in most classrooms so that the students will have computer access during any subject. Recently we have undertaken a major task of constructing and building a computer lab. We are in the process of supplying the lab with the necessary technology equipment. This lab will be used for day classes and the extended day GEAR program.
A few ways that technology is being used in the classroom:
- Challenge students with online mathematics problems
- Extend students’ vocabulary by using installed software and online activities
- Keep them writing with online writing prompts and contest they can enter
- Make history real by personalizing history lessons for students by beginning each history lesson with a quick visit to an exciting history site
- Utilize online work sheets for reinforcement or homework
- Use software and websites to perform research
- Teach students how to present their work on their own websites.
