Fourth Grade Science Project

Egg Toss

Fourth graders had an exciting project for science class this year. The project for each student was to design and construct a package that would protect a raw egg when that package would be tossed down a flight of stairs. The students did some "brainstorming" as a way of getting ideas from one another. Then each student gathered materials needed to construct his/her own package. Some students worked with a partner, while most students presented an individually produced package. The day of the "toss" ---the excitement could be heard throughout the entire building. Then each completed package was "tossed" down the stairs and to the teacher's surprise, it was the first year that MOST students had produced a package that ACTUALLY protected the raw egg. The students ACCOMPLISHED the task successfully.

United Parcel Post might want to talk with our fourth graders---it seems that our students just might be able to solve that problem that many of us have experienced---receiving damaged goods delivered by mail.
